Known in Europe as "treacle," molasses was
probably the most common alternate ingredient in colonial
American beers given the early shortages of barley.

Bring the water to a boil and add all
ingredients.

Simmer for 45 minutes, then allow the
mixture to cool to 70ºF.

Strain into a fermenter, pitch the yeast and
the yeast nutrient and ferment thoroughly.

Prime, bottle and condition for 2 weeks
before drinking.
