| Just trying to get people thinking about ideas for a beer style to brew for the Barrel Brew in May. Tom and I were thinking a Tripel or Biere de garde. |

We have been kicking around ideas and thought about a tripel. Our concern is that many of our bourbon barrel beers have had a strong bourbon component and the tripel may get lost in the bourbon.
Other ideas we've had is imperial stout and scotch ale. Yes, we just did a scotch ale a couple of years ago, but those barrels got infected. So. maybe it's time to try that one again. Another idea would be an old ale. _________________ David Barber |

We've never done an american barleywine. Those are good in barrels.
Out of the ideas out there so far (excluding mine) I like trippel and impy stout. _________________ I don't have a drinking problem 'Cept when I can't get a drink. |

My prioritized choices of the styles mentioned so far are:
1. imperial stout
2. any barley wine
3. old ale
4. scotch ale
5. biere de garde
6. tripel (I'm also concerned about the overwhelming bourbon) |

Allagash does a bourbon tripel, Curieux, and it has some very favorable reviews on BA http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4/16909
Sounds good to me. That and Chris and Tom have wanted to do a tripel since I first met the guys. Maybe its time has come. _________________ I don't have a drinking problem 'Cept when I can't get a drink. |

I agree that Curieux is an excellent beer and would love to try and duplicate. However, I was talking with Beau last night and he said that the first year it came out it was a bourbon bomb and past releases have had a more subtle character. Maybe they reused barrels from the first year. _________________ David Barber |

| Curieux is a superb brew...they age their tripel in Jim Beam barrels, resulting in a mellow brew loaded with woody vanilla notes! |

Perhaps we could brew one of the other choices....eat up the bulk of the bourbon....then come back and try the triple in the once used barrels. _________________ Scott |

This way, we'll already have a plan for "Teach a friend to home brew day". Nice idea. |

| What about a belgian quad since these always tend to be stronger beers. |
