May 2024 Lehigh Valley Homebrewers Newsletter

Steve Anthony

Greetings Brewers,

Our meeting this month will be on Tuesday May 28th, at Hop Hill Brewing Co. in Bethlehem. They're closed to the public on Tuesdays so make sure to grab something to eat before the meeting.

Can't get enough meetings? We'll be doing a Clubs Collide event with Keystone Hops at Sage Alley Brewing this Saturday May 18th. Come out and meet up with one of our fellow area clubs, grab a beer, and talk home brewing. Please register on the Events page ASAP so we can provide an accurate count to Sage Alley.

Thanks to everyone who came out to brew or just hang out at Yergey's for Big Brew this month. We managed to get just over 70 gallons of beer into the kettle and are well into fermentation. Expect a post to the Google Group when it's ready and we return for the tapping and tasting. A portion of each sale will be donated to JuxtaHub this year who were kind enough to host us as we presented a talk on an intro to homebrewing last month. Participants earned points for HBoTY, and several people brought interesting fruit variants of the beer to share.

The next HBoTY event is in June! Submit any historical style to be judged at War of the Worts! Registration open May 18th, so register early. We will be collecting entries at the May meeting and will offer a supplemental pickup tentatively June 8th from 12-2pm at Sherman Street Brewing, or you are welcome to take your entries to Keystone Homebrew before the June 9th deadline. Speaking of Keystone, we'll be battling the other area clubs in the barrel brew judgement day, Saturday June 1st, at Imprint Beer Co. We'll be there to set up after 4pm, doors will officially open at 5pm, the winner will be announced at 6:30pm and the event will end at 7.  Feel free to join us and hang out after and enjoy the food and beer from Imprint.

Thanks to everyone to came out to serve for the Hombrew Competition during Lehigh Valley Beer Week at Lost Tavern in Hellertown. This was a fun event which did well for a first run; I overheard one attendee say the beer was better than the local commercial beer festivals and ask that it run again in the future. Keep an eye out for this next year if you missed out.

If you are interested in brewing and serving to the public, consider registering for one or more of our upcoming opportunities on the Events page. Next up is the Kreidersville Covered Bridge fundraiser June 1st and 2nd. You are not obligated to attend the event both days, and can send a beer even if you aren't available to serve. Proceeds from this event go toward maintaining the historic bridge.

On a more somber note, it is with a heavy heart that I must report that long time club member Tiffany Becker lost her battle with cancer this month and passed comfortably with her family. Tiffany and her husband Chris have been long-time members, heavily involved with the club and local beer scene, and great friends to us all. Please keep Chris and Tiffany's family in your thoughts as they navigate this difficult time.

Finally, the usual reminder that we've been looking for an alternative with a low barrier to entry for notifying those interested in news, festival opportunities, or event reminders, etc. outside of the monthly newsletter cycle. To this end, we've created the "LVHB News" Google Group. If you're interested, you should be able to search for lvhb-news@googlegroups.com in the Google Groups search and request to join.

See you the 28th,

Steve Anthony

LVHb Club President
