September 2023 Lehigh Valley Homebrewers Newsletter

Greetings Brewers,

Our September meeting will be Tuesday, September 26th, at Rising River Brewing in Macungie, PA. Local Stone Pizza will have their food truck at the brewery, so come hungry!

Malt Madness is fast approaching on October 14, at Retriever Brewing. We need judges and stewards, so please register on the site. If you're not a BJCP judge, stewarding is a great way to become familiar with the process and taste some interesting beers. We also need help soliciting sponsors for gift cards at the $15, $25, and $50 levels. See Rob at the meeting, or contact us to coordinate that endeavor!

We've received some interest in wet-conditioning and milling grain, so I'll be hosting a quick education session and demonstration at the meeting this month. Learn the benefits and drawbacks of increasing the hydration level of your grain before milling, as I explain why I always take time for this step in my brewing process.

Thanks to everyone who came out for both Clam Jam in Easton in August and for the Cornhole Tourney/Brewfest with the Brewers Guild this month. Our festival calendar is relaxing this month, which should leave everyone plenty of time to finish any last minute Malt Madness entries for the Homebrewer of the Year competition. This month is a brewer's choice of any fall style, so roll out your Märzen, Festbier, or pumpkin, chili, and pickle mashup for consideration.

See you on Tuesday,

Steve Anthony

LVHb Club President

Future Meetings:

Meetings are open to anyone (21 and older) who home brews (beer, wine, cider, mead) or is interested in learning about home brewing.  Our club has over 30 certified judges and several members who have "gone pro" by opening their own brewery, meadery, or distillery! - So bring your latest craft creation and get some constructive feedback and/or accolades!

UPCOMING CLUB EVENTS

Malt Madness is October 14. There's still time to register your entries and volunteer to help out!

OUR BREWERS (are awesome!)

The club came out in force for Clam Jam in Easton, and as usual we were extremely popular with the crowds. Congrats to John Litak for taking first place, and Brian Rephy for nabbing second!

The golf/cornhole tourney and beer fest at Shepard Hill's was also a success, thanks to everyone who participated!

John Litak, Fernando Escobar, and Steve Anthony represented the club at the Great Allentown Fair, presenting The Art of Brewing, were they discussed recipe formulation and some of the interesting experiences they had adapting traditional styles to use non-traditional ingredients.
