August 2025 Lehigh Valley Homebrewers Newsletter

ree

Greetings Brewers,

A reminder that our meeting will be on Tuesday, August 26th, at The National Museum of Industrial History in Bethlehem, PA. They will be hosting us to begin thinking about their upcoming "Cheers to 250: Brewing in America" exhibit running May 2026 to March 2027, and ways we can help make that a success. Grab something to eat before you arrive, the club will have some extra local beer to sample as well. If you have a favorite commercial beer you want to share, feel free to bring a bottle or can as well! Meeting starts a 7:30PM.

If you registered for The Great Allentown Fair's homebrew competition, we will be collecting entries Saturday, August 23rd from 12-2pm at McCall Brewing (Susquehanna St). Please let one of the officers know by responding to the Google Group post or by using the contact form so we know who's coming. If you can't make it, Entries must be brought in on Monday, August 25, 2025 from 8AM - 6PM at the Agri~Plex.

The club has a number of upcoming opportunities to serve your libations to the public, as we head into festival season in the Lehigh Valley. Register now, start brewing, and come out to have a great time and share your passion! In particular next up is First Friday at the Museum of Industrial History, followed by Brew at the Zoo and the Blue Collar Scholarship Truck Show. As they're on the same day, we're requiring participants for Brew at the Zoo to send 12 cans or bottles of the same beer to the Blue Collar Scholarship Truck Show, so we can have coverage for both events. Can't get enough? The Newtown Brewing Homebrew Contest is September 7th, see the event page for details

We also will be participating in Keystone Homebrew's Club Barrel Brew Contest on September 6th! Register on the events page to come out to brew with us (recipe and ingredients provided by the club). This is a great opportunity to hang out, brew, and share homebrew samples with other area clubs so hope you can join us!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Steelstacks to serve at Lehigh Valley Pride this weekend! We had a great time, no one fainted in the heat nor got struck by lightning in the downpour as we broke down. We raised $200 in donations on behalf of the Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center in Allentown, and hope to be able to come back next year.

The collaboration beer, "Mash Point", brewed with Yergey Brewing for Big Brew day has officially kicked! Between the almost 600 pints sold and the raffle tickets for the quilt, Yergey Brewing donated $1000 to the Jess Finn Foundation for brain tumor research. We're proud to once again be able to be involved with Yergey's and help raise funds for another charity.

A reminder that Keystone Hops has announced that the 30th edition of War of the Worts has been scheduled for Saturday, September 20th. Registration on their site is open, so add your entries, and if you're BJCP certified, sign up to judge. Motown Mash is also September 20th and looking for judges, you can register on their site.

If you're looking to become BJCP certified, we pushed out exam date back, from November to February 28, 2026. Watch the website and Google Group for info on registering.

Finally, the usual reminder that we've been looking for an alternative with a low barrier to entry for notifying those interested in news, festival opportunities, or event reminders, etc. outside of the monthly newsletter cycle. To this end, we've created the "LVHB News" Google Group. If you're interested, you should be able to search for lvhb-news@googlegroups.com in the Google Groups search and request to join.

See you Tuesday,

Steve Anthony

LVHB Club President

Future Meetings:

Meetings are open to anyone (21 and older) who home brews (beer, wine, cider, mead) or is interested in learning about home brewing.  Our club has over 30 certified judges and several members who have "gone pro" by opening their own brewery, meadery, or distillery! - So bring your latest craft creation and get some constructive feedback and/or accolades!
